What is COMRA and what does it do?
COMRA is a volunteer marine search and rescue organization dedicated to saving lives on local waterways. We respond to on water emergencies, provide safety education, and support the boating community.

COMRA has been serving the community for 50+years, protecting residents and waterways through trained volunteers and coordinated rescue operations.

Who can access our marine search and rescue services?
Anyone in distress on the water can request our help — boaters, kayakers, swimmers, or anyone in need of rescue on our local waterways.

How is COMRA funded?
We are a 100% volunteer-run and community-funded organization. Funding comes from donations, sponsorships, fundraising events, and grants.

How do you respond to emergencies on the water?
Our trained crews monitor distress calls and respond with our rescue vessels, equipment, and safety protocols to reach those in need quickly and efficiently.

What types of incidents does COMRA respond to?
We respond to boating accidents, capsized vessels, stranded or missing persons, medical emergencies on the water, and other urgent situations.

How can I call for help if I’m in trouble on the water?
Contact local emergency services via VHF radio or call Joint Rescue Coordination Centre 613-965-3870. They will coordinate with COMRA for a rapid response.

What areas do you cover for marine rescue operations?
Our coverage includes Lake Ontario ensuring rapid response throughout the Region of Durham.

Can I volunteer with COMRA?
Absolutely! We welcome volunteers for on-water crew roles, support roles, and specialized positions. Training is provided for all volunteers.

What kind of training do volunteers receive?
Volunteers receive training in marine safety, navigation, search and rescue techniques, first aid, and emergency response protocols.

How can I support COMRA financially?
